Error description

  • A client applied some z/OS maintenance and this included an
update to their level of Java. On restarting
CICS after this change they found that some of their Liberty
applications were not started. They then set
    -Dcom.ibm.cics.jvmserver.wlp.args=--clean in their jvmprofile
and the subsequent restart worked as
    expected.

This APAR extends PH46591 such that any change to level of Java
is detected and as a result the --clean setting is used
automatically to ensure that the Liberty/OSGI cache is cleared
    when CICS is restarted.

Local fix

  • Set -Dcom.ibm.cics.jvmserver.wlp.args=--clean in the jvmprofile

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Link to Liberty programs unavailable *
    * after changing Java versions. *
    ****************************************************************
After applying Java maintenance a link to Liberty program did
not enable. The JVM server JVMERR file showed:

    [com.ibm.cics.wlp.link.impl] [LinkableServicesFinder] @Error:
    findLinkableServicesInContainer() - Error parsing linkable
    services XML
    com.ibm.cics.wlp.link.LinkableTargetMetadataParsingException: An
error occurred while parsing: unexpected element
    (uri:"http://www.ibm.com/xmlns/prod/cics/link",
    local:"linkableTargets"). Expected elements are (none)

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to check if Java has been updated since
last enabling the JVM server. If this is the case, Liberty will
    be started with '--clean'.
