ESA: no computer system was found and the OS is not allowed to be standalone

Troubleshooting


Problem

Provide a circumvention for Electronic Service Agent audit log error - "No computer system was found and the OS is not allowed to be stand-alone"

Resolving The Problem

Electronic Service Agent inventory fails with error No computer system was found and the OS is not allowed to be stand-alone in the Audit log. Also, No server found or CIM Server not running could be found, specially at V7R3.

The No computer system was found and the OS is not allowed to be stand-alone error is caused by file changes under the CISA directory. When, the cache files such as instance cache and repository Tivoli were cleared and the repository mofupdated file is deleted or copied from another system.


For V7R1 and V7R2 could do the following steps to correct:
Note: Does not apply for V7R3

- For the OS is not allowed to be stand-alone issue, do the following:
The QSH commands are case-sensitive.  If possible, suggest copying or paste the QSH commands

STRQSH

cd /QIBM/ProdData/OS400/ServiceAgent/cisa/repository

Rm ./mofupdated

Verify there is no error in doing these steps
If none, press F3=Exit

WRKJOBSCDE JOB(QS9SACOL)
Select option 10=Submit immediately

Usually takes 15 - 20 minutes.
Check the ESA audit log to see the message is logged.
To check the audit log, GO SERVICE option 14. Display audit log
Type B in the Position to line and press <ENTER> to see the most current messages


For V7R3 could do the following steps to correct:

The "No computer system was found and the OS is not allowed to be stand-alone." and
"No server found" would be the same root cause.

- For the CIM Server not running, QUMECIMOM job in subsystem QSYSWRK to be active.
If not, issue STRTCPSVR *CIMOM command and add that command in a startup procedure.
Do a CHGTCPSVR SVRSPCVAL(*CIMOM) press F4 and assure Autostart is set to *YES

Check whether CIM server certificate is expired. If so update the key. Restart CIM server and monitor for a few days.
