MustGather: Copying and sending in Collection Services Performance Data files from a Previous Day

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document covers copying and sending Collection Services performance data to the IBM i Global Support Center. These steps are for sending in data for a prior collection.

Resolving The Problem

System Performance Issues: Gathering Collection Services performance data.

Step 1: Checking, Configuring, and Starting Collection Services

1.

Issue command CHKPFRCOL to obtain the status of Collection Services. One of the following two messages will be posted when this command is run:

o Message CPI0A16 - Collection Services active will be displayed at the bottom of the screen and in the job log.
o Message CPI0AA5 - Collection Services not active will be displayed at the bottom of the screen and in the job log.

2.

If Collection Services is active, skip to Step 2: Saving Collection Services Data to a Save File.

If Collection Services is not active, the configuration can be reviewed and the collector job started.

Issue command CFGPFRCOL and press F4. The suggested settings are as follows:

Default interval . . . . . . . . > 5.00
Collection library . . . . . . .   QMPGDATA
Default collection profile . . .   *STANDARDP
Cycle time . . . . . . . . . . .   000000
Cycle interval . . . . . . . . .   24
Collection retention period:
    Number of units  . . . . . . .  00048
    Unit of time . . . . . . . . .  *HOURS
Create database files  . . . . .   *YES
Change PM iSeries library  . . .   *NO

3.

Issue command STRPFRCOL CYCCOL(*YES). This will start the QYPSPFRCOL collector job in QSYSWRK and will use the configuration from the CFGPFRCOL command.

Step 2: Saving Collection Services Data to a Save File

Follow these steps to copy and save the performance data:

1.

Issue command CRTLIB LIB(TSXXXXXXX)

where XXXXXXX = CASE number.

2.

Issue command CRTSAVF FILE(TSXXXXXXX/TSXXXXXXX)

3.

Use command CHKPFROCL again and document the library in the message CPI0A16. When the message Collection Services active is at the bottom of the screen, you can place the cursor on the message text and press F1. Note the collection library name.

Issue command CHKPFRCOL and press Enter.

Message . . . . : Collection Services active.
Cause . . . . . : The current collection object is QMPGDATA/Q167003003. The current collection profile is *STANDARDP.

4.

Use the CPYPFRCOL command to copy data to the newly created library.

Issue command CPYPFRCOL and press F4. Replace the From library field with the library result from the CHKPFRCOL command.  The To library should be updated with the newly created library name, TSXXXXXXX.

From collection  . . . . . . . . > *SELECT
From library . . . . . . . . . . > QPFRDATA
To collection  . . . . . . . . .   *FROMCOL
To library . . . . . . . . . . . > TSXXXXXXX
Collection type  . . . . . . . .   *CSFILE

Hit Enter

On the following screen choose the members of interest to copy and hit Enter.  The Collection Services data members begin with a Q.

Q032000002     *CSFILE        QPFRDATA       Q032000002     TSXXXXXXX

5.

Use the SAVLIB command to save the newly created library to the newly created save file.

Issue command
SAVLIB LIB(TSXXXXXXX) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(TSXXXXXXX/TSXXXXXXX) TGTRLS(*CURRENT) DTACPR(*MEDIUM)
This command will save the newly created library to the newly created save file with data compression.
