Authentication to TM1 Web is taking longer than previously expected

Troubleshooting

Problem

After an upgrade, restart, or configuration changes, you might notice a difference in performance. If the performance difference is specific to login duration taking over 10 seconds, there can be an issue with the authentication server. There may be a blank background page shown while attempting to connect that does not progress further or takes much longer than expected.

Resolving The Problem

  • First identify which authentication mode the server is using, such as CAM (login through Cognos Analytics) or TM1 basic authentication.
  • Ensure that logins to these services directly (not through TM1 Web) is working as expected. If direct connections are also not working as expected, then the issue is not specific to TM1 Web.
  • If using CAM authentication, consider switching to TM1 basic authentication in order to test if the problem is with the Cognos Analytics server.
If the problem persists after these steps, then the TM1 Web Java application likely does not have enough resources. Even if the host machine has free memory, the Java process is only allowed to use how much memory is specified in the "jvm.options" configuration file. This parameter may need to be increased in order to allow the Java process to consume the server's memory to meet the performance that is required from it. See our documentation here on how to configure the "jvm.options" file:
