  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Additional provision is needed within the IBM MQ Appliance 9.2
firmware (LTS and CD) to allow forward migration of M2002
    hardware to 9.3
    firmware levels.

This APAR provides the necessary internal logic to allow forward
    migration.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM MQ Appliance 9.2 firmware has been enhanced to
facilitate forward migration to 9.3 levels on M2002 appliance
    hardware.

    To upgrade an M2002 appliance to a 9.3 firmware level, a 9.2
firmware level must be installed that includes this APAR change.

If an attempt is made to install 9.3 firmware on an M2002
appliance that is running 9.2 firmware without this APAR change,
then an error will be reported.

Upgrading an M2002 appliance to 9.3 is a one-way operation,
meaning that the appliance cannot be reverted to the 9.2
firmware level once a 9.3 firmware has been applied. More
information on updating an M2002 appliance to the 9.3 firmware
level is available from the IBM documentation pages:
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/mq-appliance/9.3?topic=inf-upgrading
    -mq-appliance-firmware-from-version-92-version-93

Note to users planning to update from the IBM MQ Appliance 9.2.5
    firmware to 9.3:

There is a larger than expected performance impact for queue
managers that are configured to use an encrypted file system.
Users who have adopted encrypted file systems with the 9.2.5
firmware level might observe a performance degradation upon
migration to 9.3.0. This issue is being investigated by IBM
    under APAR IT41622.
