PH49347: DFHSM0151W AND DFHSM0153I MESSAGES GIVEN OUT EVERY 10 SECONDS.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Every 10 seconds a DFHSM0151W and DFHSM0153i message pair are
  given out.
  The INQUIRE_ZOS_STORAGE interval changed from 60 (default, and
  no toggle set) to 10 seconds, and the messages
  DFHSM0151W/DFHSM0153I generated each time.
                                                                 .
  In the lead-up to this happening, the CICS region, in MVS
  UNALLOCATED storage went short on storage, SOS, for both 24-bit
  and 31-bit storage, ie below and above the line.
    Once the MVS UNALLOCATED storage returned to no longer being
  short-on-storage, the message pair DFHSM0151W and DFHSM0153I
  continued to occur every 10 seconds.

                       (Above amount is now reasonable, so the
                        SOS messages no longer needed here).
  

Local fix

• Note that a recycle of CICS region would be required to break
  this cycle.
  Then, a feature toggle can be set to turn the monitor system
  task into passive mode and no messages will be issued.

  CICS MVS Storage Monitoring detects that a CICS region is
  constrained of Below-The-Line MVS storage, and puts some tasks
  into MVS_Stor suspends - waiting for the MVS SOS condition to
  end.
  CICS issues DFHSM0151W and DFHSM0153I messages to inform the
  user that CICS is constrained Below-The-Line.
  When the MVS SOS condition ends, CICS resumes the waiting tasks,
  and reports that MVS storage is no-longer constrained.
  CICS then issues DFHSM0151W and DFHSM0153I messages
  every ten seconds, indicating that CICS is constrained
  ABOVE-the-line, even though the region is no longer constrained,
  either above or below the line.
  

Problem conclusion

• CICS MVS Storage Monitoring has been changed to maintain its
  counts of MVS storage constraints correctly.
