Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6 and later * * releases running programs using JSON * * GENERATE statement with SUPPRESS phrase * * on a nested table. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The data items defined in a nested * * table * * using OCCURS clause are incorrectly * * suppressed when JSON GENERATE with * * SUPPRESS phrase is used. This problem * * occurrs when an non-suppressed data * * item with occurs OCCURS clause is * * followed by a suppressed data item * * with an OCCURS clause in a JSON * * GENERATE statement. * * * * For example: * * * * 1 GRP * * 2 DATA-A OCCURS 2 TIMES * * 2 DATA-B OCCURS 3 TIMES * * * * JSON GEN DOC FROM GRP SUPPRESS DATA-B * * * * In this case, DATA-A is incorrectly * * suppressed as well. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** When JSON GENERATE with SUPPRESS is used with a nested table, the non-suppressed data-items in the table following the suppressed data-items are incorrectly suppressed. In the final JSON output the non-suppressed data items were not printed and are incorrectly suppressed. COB0601T/K COB0602T/K COB0603T/K
Problem conclusion
The problem in the COBOL Runtime has been corrected. The problem was resolved by ensuring that the data-item's suppress flag in the nested table is reset at each iteration of OCCURS. This would ensure that the supress flag is set to a correct value before the data-item is assessed in JSON GENRATE.
