Abstract

This article describes the flexibility in licensing provided for IBM z/OS Connect in terms of its ability to be deployed and run on a wide range of target systems.

Overview and Supported Environments
IBM z/OS Connect servers can be deployed and run on a range of different target systems. This wide variety of supported target systems includes:

  • IBM z/OS (native)
  • z/OS Container Extensions (z/CX), for native z/OS and Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Linux on IBM Z, for Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) and standalone.
  • Linux on x86, for third party cloud Virtual Server Infrastructures (VSIs).
For the latest supported environments, refer to the IBM Software Product Compatibility Reports web page.
Entitlement
z/OS Connect offers a selection of licensing metrics which differ by product package. For example:
  • Value Units (VU), offering Million Service Units (MSUs), and execution-based or z/OS-based pricing models.
  • Virtual Processor Core (VPC) model that provides entitlement using API calls.
  • Simultaneous instance-based pricing.
Clients are reminded that they must purchase suitable license entitlement for the environments in which they are running z/OS Connect, such as:

  • z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition Unlimited 3.0 (5655-CE5)
Where entitlement is provided by a z/OS Connect Unlimited 3.0 license, z/OS connect servers may be deployed on any of the supported environments. In this case, the entitlement is referenced to the MSU footprint of the z/OS systems where the back-end subsystems ( i.e. IBM CICS, IBM IMS, IBM Db/2) are resident, and to which the z/OS Connect servers are providing access, irrespective of where the z/OS connect servers are deployed.
  • IBM Z and Cloud Modernization Stack 2022.x (5900-A8N)
Where entitlement for z/OS Connect capability is provided as part of an IBM Z and Cloud Modernization Stack license purchase, z/OS Connect may be deployed in any of the supported environments. The license, under a VPC metric, supports flexible deployment of all the included components, including z/OS Connect. In this case, the VPC entitlement is mapped using ratio table-to-bundles of 10 Million API calls made through the z/OS Connect server.
  • z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (Instance-based) 3.0 (5655-CE3)
Where entitlement is provided through a z/OS Connect Instance-based 3.0 license, only the native server capability is provided. z/OS Connect servers may be deployed only on the z/OS System for which entitlement has been purchased.
