Error description

  • The "recommission node" command is introduced since IBM
    Spectrum Protect Server v8.1.10, it resets the status of a node
    that was previously decommissioned from the production
    environment. If an IBM Spectrum Protect Data Protection for
    VMware backup node is decommissioned and later
    recommissioned, VM restore operations end without error,
    but 0 bytes are transferred. The restored VM is not usable.

    Example of ending statistics:
    --------------------
    Successful full restore of VMware virtual machine '<VM_NAME>',
    mode='Full', target node name='<NODE_NAME>', data mover node
    name='<DATA_MOVER_NAME>'

    Total number of objects restored: 1
    Total number of objects failed: 0
    Total number of bytes transferred: 0 B
    Data transfer time:                                 0.00 sec
    Network data transfer rate: 0.00 KB/sec
    Aggregate data transfer rate: 0.00 KB/sec
    Elapsed processing time:                       0:00:25
    --------------------
    Diagnostics:
    A data mover trace using "TRACEFLAGS VM" indicates that no CTL
    files are found. See the last message in the following example
    trace snippet:
    --------------------
    ..\..\common\vm\vmrestvddk.cpp(4978): LegacyRestoreDisk(): CDF ?

     looking for CTL file(s)

    ..\..\common\vm\vmAPISendData.cpp(1743):  vmAPISend

    ..\..\common\vm\vmrestvddk.cpp(5009): LegacyRestoreDisk(): No

     Files found. Quietly returning.
    --------------------

    The BACKUPS table on the IBM Spectrum Protect server shows that

    backup objects exist, including .CTL files. All objects are
    inactive versions. For example:

    # select * from backups where node_name='<DATA_MOVER_NAME>' and

    filespace_name='\<VMFULL-VM_NAME>'
    --------------------          NODE_NAME: <DATA_MOVER_NAME>
