KDump or FADump fails to capture dump to VFC backed multipath raw disk

Abstract

Dump capture fails when the dump target is a raw disk with VFC backed multipath.

Symptoms
On using user friendly names for multipath, dump capture to VFC backed multipath raw disk fails 
because the capture kernel fails to use the right device node to identify the disk.
Workaround
Disable user friendly names for multipath by setting user_friendly_names value to no in 
/etc/multipath.conf file. Reboot and rebuild initrd for dump capture kernel by using the 
following commands:
kdumpctl rebuild
kdumpctl reload

Fix Outlook
This issue is resolved with RHEL 8.6, or later. IBM is working with Red Hat to resolve this issue with 
RHEL 9.2. The alert will be updated when a fix is available.
