kdump kernel crashes during per-hop behavior (PHB) reset

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

On Power Systems logical partition (LPAR), when an empty slot is assigned to the partition or in single LPAR mode, kdump kernel crashes during PHB reset.

Content

Linux Releases Affected
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.0 and future service packs
IBM Systems Affected
9080-HEX (IBM Power E1080).
Symptoms
After triggering kdump on the 9080-HEX with RHEL 9.0 nightly build system, vmcore is not captured and Enhanced Error Handling (EEH) call traces are observed.
Workaround
Make sure that I/O slots that are assigned to the LPAR are not left empty. If any of the I/O slot is left empty,
it can impact serviceability.

Fix Outlook
Fix is available in the later releases and needs to be backported to Distros.
