ITCAM for Transactions Web Response Time (WRT) version 7.4 agent, how does WRT agent capture transaction data?

Question & Answer

Question

how does IBM Web Response Time version 7.4 agent capture transaction data?

Answer

Web Response Time (WRT) agent (product code T5) can catch network traffic from two ways :

1. WRT catches network traffic from its local NIC. You must install WRT agent on  the same box with Load balancer, or web server for example.

2. Install WRT on a separate box from Load balancer / Web Server, and set up a mirroring of the network traffic to the NIC of the system where WRT agent is installed. WRT does not support VMware software switch for example. You need to be using a switch that supports mirroring feature.

Another issue can also prevent WRT agent from monitoring the traffic in your environment:

WRT can only monitor HTTP traffic where input packets and output packets are occurring on same NIC.
