The memory growth was observed during AES encryption operations
using since Java 8, SR7FP5 causing application to stop. If the
encryption operation is disabled or IBMJCE is put ahead of
IBMJCEPlus as the JCE provider in java.security file, then
native memory usage does not grow. The application uses AES
Counter Mode with 256-bit key encryption.

Local fix

  • Place IBMJCE ahead of IBMJCEPlus in java.security file.

Problem summary

  • There is a memory growth observed during AES encryption
operations using IBMJCEPlus as the provider.

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM has been updated to fix the memory growth when AES
encryption operations are performed with IBMJCEPlus as the
provider. The native library releases an internal context
structure associated with this Cipher. This code change will fix
memory growth for decryption operation and other symmetric
cipher like Triple-DES.
