Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes the Directory Dump menu and options associated with it.
Resolving The Problem
Installing and updating QMGTOOLS - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/684977
To access the Directory Dump menu from the Must Gather Data Collector menu -
GO QMGTOOLS/MG => Internals => Storage Management Menu => Directory Dump Menu
You can also access the Directory Dump Menu directly - GO QMGTOOLS/DD
The Directory Dump menu looks like this. Descriptions of the options will follow after the sample screen capture.

Display Directory Dump Instructions
Displays the instructions.
Start Directory Dump
Retrieves information about the entries in the temporary or permanent directories. The snapshot of the entries either in the specified directory or ASP. The collected information includes extent details, segment details, segment type, object type and subtype, object name, library name, and some heap details.

| Directory dump name | - the name of the collection |
| Directory dump library | - the library to contain the directory dump collection - data will be placed in files name QASCDD* and the members are specified as the name of the collection |
| Directory type | - T (contents of the temporary directory will be dumped) - P (contents of the permanent directory will be dumped for all of Sysbase, ASP's 1-32 - I (contents of the permanent directory will be dumped for a single ASP) |
| ASP number | - specifies the ASP number to have its permanent directory dumped - 0 (temporary or permanent directory is being dumped) - 1-255 (the ASP number) |
| Job queue name/library | - what job queue to submit the job |
| Number of jobs | - how many jobs to run in the background - job will be named QSCDIRDnnn, where nnn is a number |
| Run priority of jobs | - run priority |
Either save the directory dump library for later analysis or use the Query Directory Dump option to analyze the collected data.
Query Directory Dump
The command produces reports against a data set produced by either the Start Directory Dump function or Compare Directory Dumps function.

| Directory dump name | - the directory dump name to run the query against - this directory dump name was specified when the option Start Directory Dump was used |
| Directory dump library | - the library that contains the directory dump name |
| Job queue name/library | - what job queue to submit the job |
| Run priority of jobs | - priority of the batch job |
| Top contributors | - rank the xxx top contributors |
| Top ranking | - xxx for top rankings |
To view the results use command DSPPFM FILE(XXXXXXXXXX/DDREPORT) MBR(YYYYYYYYYY) where XXXXXXXXXX is the directory dump library and YYYYYYYYYY is the directory dump name.
Compare Directory Dump
Takes two directory dump data sets collected by the Query Directory Dump function and produces a new data set that includes only new segments or extents or those that had growth.

| Directory dump one name | - the older data set name |
| Directory dump one library | - the older data set library |
| Directory dumps two name | - the new data set name |
| Directory dumps two library | - the new data set library |
| New directory dump name | - the results name |
| New directory dump library | - the results library to contain the results directory dump name |
Analyze the results with the Query Directory Dump function.
Copy Directory Dump
Copies a directory dump data set from one location to another.

| Directory dump name | - the directory dump name to be copied |
| Directory dump library | - the directory dump library containing the directory dump name to be copied |
| New directory dump name | - the new directory dump name |
| New directory dump library | - the new library to contain the new directory dump name |
Remove Directory Dump
Deletes the data related to a directory dump data set.

| Directory dump name | - directory dump name to be deleted |
| Directory dump library | - directory dump library containing the directory dump to be deleted |
Create Directory Dump Sample
The function retrieves a random list of segments that match the specified criteria. It essentially provides a reverse lookup for data seen on the Query Directory Dump reports to the actual segments, thus allowing access to the full details.

| Directory dump name | - the directory dump name to be queried |
| Directory dump library | - the library containing the directory dump name |
| Segment type | - segment type to be queried (SEGTYPE) |
| Object type | - object type to be queried (OBJTYPE) |
| Segment size | - segment size to be queried (CHUNKSIZE) |
| Object name start with | - query object names starting with (ONAME) |
| Library name starts with | - query library names starting with (LNAME) |
| Size of sample | - Size of same |
A random sample of SIDMPL segments will be returned. A spooled file will be produced that contains only the segment addresses. Full details will be placed in member (the name of the directory dump name) in file DDSMP in the library specified for the directory dump.
