Error description

  • Environment:
    All Windows platform Agent using IP.SPIPE for exclusive
    connection
    Do you think the latest patch applied is involved? No
    
    Problem Description:
    Starting any Agent on the Windows platform will fail to start,
    if that agent is configured to communicate with a TEMS using
    IP.SPIPE as the only connection protocol. A Pop-Up dialog will
    appear to the user with the error message:
    "KCICF5100E Unable to start service, see Event Log for
    information.".
    The RAS1 trace log for the agent will contain near its end the
    trace statement:
    "CTRA Server ERROR: no transports available, ffffffff. Server
    shutting down".
    
    The following message may be seen in the agent RAS1 log file:
    "static_contructor") SSL interface module kdebe unavailble
    
    Detailed Recreation Procedure:
    Install Tivoli Monitoring Server on a System.
    Install Monitoring Agent for Windows OS on a separate Windows
    system.
    Using Manage Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Services (MTEMS)
    configure the only Monitoring Agent for Windows OS connection
    parameter "Primary TEMS Connection Protocol1:" to be set to
    "IP.SPIPE".
    Start the Agent.
    Observe the "KCICF5100E Unable to start service, see Event Log
    for information.". Popup dialog message appear.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When a backslash is the last character on the PATH in the KNTENV
     file, the kdebe.dll file will not load
    

Problem conclusion

  • Problem appeared after MSVC runtime refresh in SP06.
    
    
    The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
    packages:
    
       | service pack | 6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-SP0013
    

Temporary fix

  • Manual edit of the KNTENV file to remove the backslash will fix
    the problem.  Code change made to sp_next to remove any trailing
     backslashes if they exist.
