Description
Undetected Data Loss on SafeGuarded Copy recovery volumes
Performance enhancement changes were introduced in R9.2 SP1.3 - 89.21.32.0, to alleviate performance issues when creating SafeGuarded Copy recovery volumes. The code enhancements were also included in R9.2 SP1.4 - 89.21.34.0.
The changes, however, introduced a timing exposure, that may lead to inconsistent data being written to the recovery volumes.
SafeGuarded Copy backup volumes are not exposed to this problem.
Recommended Action
Mitigation:
While the fix below is the preferred action, temporary mitigation is available via an ICS-CD
The ICS disk will disable the enhancements that were made in R9.2 SP1.3, mitigating further exposure.
Existing recovery volumes should be removed, and new recovery volumes created after the ICS install.
Creation of the new recovery volumes will revert to the performance levels prior to R9.2 SP1.3.
Fix:
Preferred action - Install R9.2 SP1.5 - 89.21.35.0 or higher
Existing recovery volumes should be removed, and new recovery volumes created after the fix is installed.
