Problem
The Cloud Pak System device raises a warning event regarding the need for a battery replacement
CWZIP8804W The battery n in enclosure n on storage node 0000000000000000 has changed to the degraded state.
Error ID = 85044 : Enclosure battery is nearing end of life
Error ID = 85044 : Enclosure battery is nearing end of life
for a storage node listed as "Storage Node Expansion - addition".
After the successful battery replacement and clearing of the events from the storage node itself, the storage node status remains with a yellow triangle and "Warning" status.
Diagnosing The Problem
The additional storage node is in a normal status when monitored from the storage component user interface.
This situation previously required a manual update to the internal Cloud Pak System database to resolve.
Resolving The Problem
Follow these steps to restore the normal, green checkmark and 'Available' status of the storage node:
1. Identify the battery event that caused the issue by going to Hardware > Storage Devices
Note the event details (CWZIPxxx message and timeframe)
2. Search for this battery event in Problem Determination > Events
3. Confirm this event matches the event details noted in Step 1, then click the 'Delete' icon under "Actions"
4. Use the refresh icon in the upper left to refresh the page and confirm that the event is deleted and totally removed from the list of events. IMPORTANT: Closure of the event is not enough - the event must be deleted.
5. The storage controller will return to the normal, 'Available' state after the page is refreshed. If it does not show 'Available', wait some additional time to ensure the background job finishes the status update. Refresh the page again and verify the status.
