Problem

Opening the PAfE Xll file downloaded from IBM Fix Central displays the error message "The file format and extension of 'IBM_PAfE_xxx_x.x.xx.x.xll' don't match. The file could be corrupted or unsafe. Unless you trust its source, don't open it. Do you want to open it anyway?":

Symptom

After clicking "Yes", Excel outputs the message, "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." in the worksheet.

Cause

An outdated version of .NET framework was found on the machine. .NET framework 4.8+ is required for the PAfE Xll add-in.

Environment

Note: This issue and technote applies to Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE) 2.0.65 and above only.

Diagnosing The Problem

Confirm your .NET framework version, if it is older than .NET Framework 4.8, then proceed.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:

1. Download and install .NET 4.8 or newer from the official Microsoft website.

2. Uninstall Microsoft Office.

3. Install Microsoft Office.

If the issue persists or if you already had .NET framework 4.8+ installed, it might be related to the anti-virus blocking a process used in PAfE: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6508932
