Transformer error TR1000 when accessing a data source

Troubleshooting


Problem

Transformer model that uses legacy Impromptu Query Definition (IQD) files as data sources fails with error:
(TR1000) Transformer Can't initialize the Data Movement Service(DMS)

Symptom

Transformer is newly installed on a new Windows Server that is being set-up to replace an old server that is being decommissioned, where the IQD data sources are working.

Cause

The Windows operating system version is not compatible with legacy IQD data sources.
The legacy Series 7 type IQD data sources must be installed on platforms supported by IBM Cognos Series 7.4. The data sources used with the IQD files must also be supported on the same platforms.

Note: Functionality was added to Transformer to use Package and Report data sources after Series 7.  Customers are encouraged to migrate off of IQD data sources because they are deprecated and are not being maintained for compliance with new 3rd party products.  

The IQD bridge is kept in the product to allow applications to use them until you can migrate to compatible data sources for your existing Transformer applications.

Resolving The Problem

If keeping Transformer Models that use IQD data sources on a compatible operating system is not an option the Transformer model data sources needs to be migrated to a compatible data source.
