IT39518: IBM SPECTRUM PROTECT FOR VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS IS UNABLE TO RECOGNIZE SPECIAL CHARACTER "&" IN NODE NAME

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When performing operations using IBM Spectrum Protect for
  Virtual Environments GUI, it may produce errors if special
  character "&" is used in node name.
  
  
  If any existing node name contains special characters "&", the
  characters after the special character is truncated. For
  example, vmcli node is VM_VMCLI and data center node is
  VM_DC&TEST. Both nodes and proxy relation exist on Spectrum
  Protect server. When running Spectrum Protect for Virtual
  Environments configuration wizard, it reports error when trying
  to verify the proxy relation:
  
  ANS1532E (RC5722) Proxy Rejected : Proxy authority has not been
  granted to this node.
  Node=VM_VMCLI,Asnode=VM_DC
  
  The node name VM_DC&TEST is unexpectedly truncated to VM_DC.
  
  Versions Affected:
  IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection
  for VMware 8.1.*
  

Local fix

• Do not use the special character "&" in node name for Spectrum
  Protect for Virtual Environments operations.

Problem conclusion

• Clients can not have nodenames with symbols "&" using IBM
  Spectrum Protect Data Protection for VMware. A code change was
  made after which clients can have nodenames which contain symbol
  "&".
