Summary

Apache Log4j 2.16, that is affected by CVE-2021-45105, is installed with IBM Workload Scheduler 9.5.0.5 in jdbc driver for informix/Onedb rdbms.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID:   CVE-2021-45105
DESCRIPTION:   Apache Log4j is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by the failure to protect from uncontrolled recursion from self-referential lookups. A remote attacker with control over Thread Context Map (MDC) input data could craft malicious input data that contains a recursive lookup to cause a StackOverflowError that will terminate the process. Note: The vulnerability is also called LOG4J2-3230.

Remediation/Fixes

Apar IJ36872 has been opened to address the issue and will be fixed in 9.5.0.6.

The affected file log4j-core-2.16.0.jar is not used by Informix/Onedb jdbc driver we stronly suggest to delete the file manually.

The location of the file to delete is <IWS home>/jdbcdrivers/informix on Master, Backup and Dynamic Domain Manager, <DWC home>/jdbcdrivers/informix on Dynamic Workload Console.

Note that the file log4j-core-2.16.0.jar is not present in releases of fixpacks different from 9.5.0.5.
