Maximo Application Suite Manage configuration directly set on the custom resource might be overwritten by initial UI configuration

Troubleshooting

Problem

After initial activation of Manage, attributes of the ManageWorkspace custom resource, if directly set through OpenShift console or command-line interface, might be overwritten if later another unrelated deployment attribute is set through Application Suite Manage configuration UI.

Symptom

The configurations of Manage application can be set either by creating or editing the ManageWorkspace custom resource through OpenShift console or command-line interface, or using Maximo Application Suite Manage configuration UI. After initial activation of Manage, if user sets a deployment attribute of ManageWorkspace custom resource directly through OpenShift console or command-line interface, then later configures another unrelated deployment attribute through Maximo Application Suite's Manage configuration UI, the first attribute might be overwritten and set back to the original default value. This happens only when the Manage is newly activated.
Here is an example:
1. Use Maximo Application Suite Manage Configuration UI to activate Manage
2. Go to OpenShift console, locate ManageWorkspace CR, modify useMasSmtpcfg to false. The CR is saved
3. Open Maximo Application Suite Manage Configuration UI, import a new external certificate, apply the change
4. Go to OpenShift console, locate ManageWorkspace CR, notice useMasSmtpcfg is reverted back to true

Cause

The Application Suite Manage configuration UI when applying the changes conducted by the user from UI has a bug so that it does not consider the values already set on custom resource if the section that contains this attribute was under system managed before the first edit.

Diagnosing The Problem

If you edit the Manage configuration with both direct edits to the customer resource or Manage configuration UI, and you notice your direct change to the custom resource is overwritten after UI action, you have encountered this problem.

Resolving The Problem

The overwritten only happens right after the initial activation. You can go back to OpenShift console to again set the attribute to your wanted value.
However, it is a good practice to either always use the Manage configuration UI, or directly edit the CR to avoid the problem.
