IT38588: INSTALLATION PROCESS LEADS TO CORRUPT BACKUP WHEN INTERRUPTED WITH A BUSY FILE.

IBM MQ for HP NonStop Server V8.1 Fix Pack 8.1.0.9

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The installation is partially upgraded. Installing a newer
  version on top of the partially upgraded installation leads to
  partially upgraded and corrupted backup. Using this  backup to
  restore will result in a mixed installation having files from
  different versions.
  

Local fix

• Stop all processes that keep the files open and and perform a
  the same upgrade again using option -b to skip performing
  another backup.
  

Problem summary

• Installer check for open files is done at the beginning but
  if files are open later on at the time of replacement e.g.
  through a call to dspmq, runmqsc ... they are not replaced and
  the installer stops resulting in an installation having old
  and new files.
  

Problem conclusion

• The installer was improved to unlink OSS files and rename
  Guardian files that are open at the time of replacement.
  
  A warning message is shown to tell that the user needs to
  delete the renamed Guardian files manually.
  
  In case of unhandled error situtations an additional error
  message is shown to tell that a retry or restore is required
  to fix the installation.

Temporary fix

• Make sure no processes are running that can
  open any file of MQ installation during the upgrade.
