APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Probe of Spectrum Scale device with large number of filesets
    fails due to timeout. Storage Insights uses the command
    "/usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmlsfileset rsrch1 -Ydi" which takes nearly
    two hours to return with results. Timeout should be configurable
    to handle extreme cases such as this..
    

Local fix

  • Steps to modify the Probe Timeout:
    ---------------------------
    
    On your Data Collector server:
    
    Locate where the Data Collector is installed,
    for example, DC_HOME
    
    Edit the setup.properties file in DC_HOME/conf/
    
    DC_HOME/conf/setup.properties
    
    Add this line at the bottom of the file contents:
    
    probeTimeout=<time in milliseconds>
    
    For example, to set a 4 hour probe timeout:
    probeTimeout=14400000
    
    Restart the Data Collector.
    
    You can review and verify each device probe is allocated the
    new time by reviewing the trace_message log
    ( Task time out is set to <xx> minutes )
