Error description
CICS does not issue any message when it is able to start accepting inbound TCP/IP connections. Similarly CICS does not issue any message to state when connections are no longer being accepted. The ability to accept inbound traffic requires both the socket listener to be active and the associated TCPIPSERVICE to be OPEN. These can occur at different times and the presence of the DFHSO0107 message that indicates a TCPIPSERVICE has been opened, does not mean that connections can immediately arrive and be processed. This APAR has been raised to add new messages to the CICS socket listener task that indicate when it is ready to accept new connections and when that has stopped.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS does not issue messages to make it * * clear when inbound TCP/IP connections * * are able to be accepted. * **************************************************************** During CICS initialisation TCPIPSERVICEs may be installed from GRPLIST, recovered from the catalog, or created by a PLT program (e.g. CPSM BAS install). When the TCPIPSERVICE status is set to OPEN, message DFHSO0107 gets issued. The DFHSO0107 message does not mean that new inbound connections could be accepted for those TCPIPSERVICEs. Inbound connections are only able to be accepted when the CICS socket listener (CSOL) task enters its main work loop. This will happen at the end of CICS initialisation but there is no corresponding message issued by CICS to make it obvious.
Problem conclusion
The CICS socket listener has been changed to issue 3 new messages. These messages will show when inbound connections are able to be accepted. The new messages are; DFHSO0200I applid The CICS socket listener task is now accepting inbound TCP/IP connections. DFHSO0201I applid The CICS socket listener task has stopped accepting new inbound HTTP connections. DFHSO0202I applid The CICS socket listener task has stopped accepting all inbound TCP/IP connections.
