APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • CICS is being brought down after a given transaction has been
    doing a PURGE every now and again and some of those PURGE
    operations have caused entry to the recovery routine of DFHPGIS
    more than a specified number of times.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After a number of failed attempts to *
    *                      PURGE tasks, CICS is self-terminating,  *
    * dumping with abend 0999 in DFHKERRI and *
    *                      writing message DFHKE0303 indicating    *
    * that a recursive abend has been *
    * detected by the kernel domain. *
    ****************************************************************
    After a number of failed attempts to PURGE tasks (not
    necessarily the same task), CICS is self-terminating, by design,
    as CICS incorrectly determines that it is looping in the
    recovery routine of DFHPGIS.

    The message +DFHKE0303 "A RECURSIVE ABEND HAS BEEN DETECTED BY
    THE KERNEL DOMAIN." is seen in the job log and the created dump
    will indicate a number of 0C4 abends in DFHPGIS (not necessarily
    at the same time) eventually leading to an abend 0999 in module
    DFHKERRI just before self-termination.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been updated so that a failure to PURGE a task does not
    lead CICS to believe that it is potentially looping in recovery
    and, therefore, it no longer self-terminates with an abend 0999.
