Troubleshooting
Problem
You need to collect additional logging about the SPSS Statistics client application.
Symptom
For example, you have installed the product and try to launch it. You see a splash screen and then the application simply disappears.
Resolving The Problem
The following steps can be used to generate a trace file which may be useful when working with a technical support representative to diagnose a problem. These examples assume IBM SPSS Statistics 28.0. Your version and platform may reference slightly different paths from those shown here.
On Windows
1. Locate the "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics\utility\spsstrace.properties" file and copy it to your Statistics installation folder ("C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics")
2. Launch Statistics and use it as you normally would until you reproduce the error.

2. Launch Statistics and use it as you normally would until you reproduce the error.
3. Exit the application normally. A trace log file will now be present in the executing user's home directory (For example "C:\Users\Administrator\statistics_client_trace_file0.log")
4. Attach the log file to your case with IBM SPSS Technical Support.
On macOS
4. Attach the log file to your case with IBM SPSS Technical Support.
On macOS
1. The "../utility/spsstrace.properties" path and file do not exist on macOS. Download a version here and copy it to your Statistics installation folder ("/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/bin")
2. Launch Statistics and use it as you normally would until you reproduce the error.
3. Exit the application normally. A trace log file will now be present in the executing user's home directory (For example "/Users/Administrator/statistics_client_trace_file0.log")
