Question & Answer

Question

Does the Guardium Application Exchange named "RansomShield" require the File Activity Monitoring(FAM) license?

Cause

Guardium Security Solution includes a group of Applications that extends its own functionalities not only to File Activity Monitor better known as Guardium FAM, or Guardium Database Monitoring, better know as Guardium DAM.  You can add features to Guardium FAM or Guardium DAM like this RansomShield Application to effectively review if your systems can be target of a Ransomware Security Attack.
The RansomShield Application continuously monitors the files activity on databases servers that are connected to IBM Guardium.  This application is powered by IBM Software Geology cloud technology

Not all Guardium Installations have the File Activity Monitoring licenses. Therefore, if you plan to install this App into the Guardium Security DAM you need to be aware of the prerequisites

Answer

Yes FAM license is required to have the File Activity Monitoring "S-TAP FAM"- Installed on the wanted monitored Database Server. Therefore, the FAM license is required because, file activity monitoring is tightly coupled to the IBM malware detection called "Software Geology".
It also requires to have the "Software Geology" Access hosted on the IBM Cloud Technologies.
Contact our sales team regarding both prerequisites.
