PH40401: 'COPY' STATEMENT CAUSES "THE FILE DOES NOT CONTAIN AN ASSEMBLER PROGRAM" ERROR DURING PROJECT BUILD

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When building Assembler programs project in Application
Discovery 6.0.0, the build log shows a bunch of "The file does
not contain an Assembler program" errors during project build.


One of the log messages related to this issue:
PPS.TSG10PDS.TM04A.PROGRAM.ASM\VSMOLMS(1)  Error [999]   Syntax
error  'The file does not contain an Assembler program'

It appears that AD does not like it when a 'COPY' statement is
the first non-comment line in a program.

Local fix

  • After adding the word 'SPACE' in front of 'COPY', the build is
good (ie. - COPY MBRA ==> SPACE COPY MBRA).

Problem summary

  • When building an Assembler program and a 'COPY' statement is the
 first non-comment line in a program, the AD Assembler compiler
didn't correctly parse the file, leading to the following error
: "Error [999]      Syntax error   The file does not contain an
Assembler program".

Problem conclusion

  • AD Assembler compiler now supports assembler programs that start
 with a "COPY" statement.
