Log FIle Agent remote log file monitoring does not work with GSKit 8.0.55.17 or later

Troubleshooting


Problem

There is a compatibility issue with the Tivoli Log File Agent running on GSKit 8.0.55.17 (and later) when using the remote log file monitoring function.  APAR IJ34689 was opened for this issue and has been closed as a product limitation due to incompatibility issues.

Environment

The remote log file monitoring is in effect when the SshHostList parameter is used in the .conf file.
The issue can occur across Log File Agent versions. The issue occurs when GSKit is upgraded to version 8.0.55.17 and above. 
The GSKit version is upgraded to 8.0.55.17 when agent shared components are upgraded to 6.30 FP7 SP6 (and above).  For example, if there is an OS Agent on the same system and that agent is upgraded to 6.30 FP7 SP6, then the GSKit for all agents in that $CANDLEHOME will share the upgraded GSKit version.
The GSKit version is also upgraded when the Log File Agent 6.30 FP7 is installed, which upgrades the ITM shared components (which includes GSKit) to 6.30 FP7 SP6.

Resolving The Problem

If the GSKit version has already been upgraded, install the Log File Agent locally on the systems where log files are to be monitored instead of using the remote file monitoring function.
