Changing the port for WAS Administrative Console using the GUI

Question & Answer

Question

How can I change the port number to access WAS Administrative Console (WebSphere Integrated Solutions Console)?
Is it possible to change it using the GUI?

Answer

To update the console listening port, you need to change the port setting and the host alias.

Before you begin:
Please make sure you take a configuration backup of your current server before carrying out the process of changing the ports in case any issue occurs after the change. You can use the backupConfig command.

Steps:
1. To change the console listening port setting
 1) Log on to the WAS Administrative Console
 2) Change port number
    [Network Deployment Edition]
     (1) Click System management > Deployment Manager > Ports
     (2) Click the link to the port that you want to change.
You would need to change http and https port:
               (http) WC_adminhost
             (https) WC_adminhost_secure
You can change from default value(9060/9043) to new value here.
     (3) Click apply to save it
     [Base Edition]
      (1) Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers
      (2) Click the name of the application server for which you want to change port numbers
      (3) Click Ports
      (4) Click the link to the port that you want to change.
You would need to change http and https port:
               (http) WC_adminhost
             (https) WC_adminhost_secure
You can change from default value(9060/9043) to new value here.
       (5) Click apply to save it
NOTE: please make sure that new port is not used by other process.
2. To change the host alias
[common procedure for Network Deployment edition and Base edition]
 1) Log on to the WAS Administrative Console
 2) Click Environment > Virtual hosts > admin_host > Host Aliases
 3) Click * (Host name) and change the port number from default value(9060/9043) to new value
 4) Click apply to save it
3. Restart the server and try to access WAS Administrative Console with new port number
Additional information:
If you need to change the port number for the access to WAS Administrative Console on AdminAgent (in WAS Base Edition), please use the following steps instead since AdminAgent console does not have the menu for Virtual hosts settings.

 1) Log on to the WAS Administrative Console
 2) Click System administration > Administrative agent > Ports
 3) Click the link to the port that you want to change.
You would need to change http and https port:
           (http) WC_adminhost
         (https) WC_adminhost_secure
You can change from default value to new value here.
 4) Click apply to save it
 5) Just after that, you can see the following message at the top of the console.
-----
Messages:
(!) One or more virtual hosts match the previous host name and port combination of "*:[current_port_number]" and do not match the new combination of "*:[new_port_number]." You might need to update the host aliases.
-----
