Problem

How to Scratch Install HMC (7042-CR7, 7042-CR8, or 7042-CR9) to Version 9

Environment

7042-CR7, 7042-CR8, or 7042-CR9

Resolving The Problem

Scratch install 7042 HMC to V9R1.910

(This is a clean installation, and you will NOT use any Save Upgrade Data or Backup Console Data.)

A. Record settings

If you are able, record your current HMC settings using our document, "Items to Document Prior to Performing Scratch Installation of the HMC." This will make reconfiguring your HMC easier.

B. Obtain the image

Download (direct or via fix central)

Burn the .ISO as an image to DVD-R media.

C. Scratch install (Must be at the local HMC to perform)

After the installation, run through the setup wizard to re-enter your network settings (and any additional settings you want to save) that you recorded in (a). The HMC should automatically rediscover the power server within 20 minutes. Your partition configuration is read down after you enter the server’s HMC “access” password. Next you'll want to enable HMC remote access.

And finally configure and test Call Home (if not done as part of the setup wizard):

Service management > Electronic Service Agent Setup Wizard

D. Apply fixes

After the installation, install the latest fixes. You can obtain the fixes (or order them on media) using Fix Central. When doing a scratch (clean) install, you just need MH01853, MH01876 V9R1M942, and MH01898.
