How To
Summary
Unable to boot an LPAR and stuck on error AA00E158.
Objective
Getting around an LPAR not booting due to error AA00E158.
Environment
PowerVM/VIOS
AIX
HMC
Steps
- The first scenario is to check the profile of the LPAR causing the issue, and make sure it is not set to boot in SMS.
- The second scenario is to check the number of partitions you have versus how many partitions are allowed as per the limitations in your environment, such as your PowerVM/VIOS Edition (PowerVM Standard Edition/PowerVM Enterprise Edition/IBM® PowerVM, Linux Edition) in case of a PowerVM/VIOS configuration.
- The third scenario usually takes place after a power outage, you need to exit SMS and reboot the LPAR and it should boot successfully. More information about this scenario and how to fix it on;
