Security Bulletin

Summary

Vulnerabilities in Python, Python cryptography , and Urllib3 such as buffering problems, SSL certificate validations for HTTP & HTTPS, Bleichenbacher timing attacks in the RSA decryption API, may affect IBM Spectrum Discover.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID:   CVE-2020-36242
DESCRIPTION:   Cryptography could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by an integer overflow and a buffer overflow. By using certain sequences of update calls to symmetrically encrypt multi-GB values, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system or cause a denial of service.
CVSS Base score: 9.1
CVSS Temporal Score: See: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/196426 for the current score.
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H)

CVEID:   CVE-2020-25659
DESCRIPTION:   python-cryptography could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a Bleichenbacher timing attack. By sending a specially-crafted request using the RSA decryption API, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain parts of the cipher text encrypted with RSA, and use this information to launch further attacks against the affected system.
CVSS Base score: 5.9
CVSS Temporal Score: See: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/192485 for the current score.
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N)

CVEID:   CVE-2021-28363
DESCRIPTION:   urllib3 for python is vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle attack, caused by improper certificate validation in some cases involving HTTPS to HTTPS proxies. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to launch a man-in-the-middle attack and gain access to the communication channel between endpoints to obtain sensitive information or further compromise the system.
CVSS Base score: 5.9
CVSS Temporal Score: See: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/198199 for the current score.
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N)

CVEID:   CVE-2021-3177
DESCRIPTION:   Python is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the PyCArg_repr function in _ctypes/callproc.c. By sending specially-crafted arguments to c_double.from_param, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.
CVSS Base score: 9.8
CVSS Temporal Score: See: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/195244 for the current score.
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)
