Brocade, Cisco

Firmware levels newer than what is listed here are considered untested but are expected to work similarly and can be used. Newer levels are often recommended to pick up the latest fixes and functionality. If issues arise while using the newer levels, open a support case and IBM Support will investigate the problem and attempt to resolve it, but a fix is not guaranteed. Any issues will be documented as they are identified. Minor version variations, such as letter designations, for the firmware levels might not be listed, but they are supported unless explicitly excluded.

Rebranded switches that match the listed models and firmware levels are supported.

More detailed information about support for firmware with particular switch models is available from each of the switch vendors and should be referenced. The information in this table is provided for guidance with IBM Storage Insights.

IBM Storage Insights can monitor Brocade fabrics and switches with a Fabric operating system (FOS) of 8.2.1 or later, up to 9.1.x.

For important notes, limitations, and considerations for monitoring Brocade in IBM Storage Insights, check out Planning for Brocade switches and fabrics in the IBM Storage Insights documentation.
Additional information:
  • IBM Storage Insights only supports FC ports on Brocade switches.  CEE or FCoE ports are not supported.
  • Fabrics with switches from two (or more) vendors are not supported unless all switches of the second vendor are in NPV (N_Port Virtualization) mode.
  • Brocade FOS downloads are available through IBM Fix Central.

IBM Storage Insights can monitor Cisco fabrics and switches with NX-OS Release 8.4(x), 8.5(1), or 9.2(1a).  You must enable NX-API on your MDS Cisco switches before you can add them for monitoring in IBM Storage Insights.

Cisco switch notes, limitations, and considerations:
For important notes, limitations, and considerations for monitoring Cisco in IBM Storage Insights, check out Planning for Cisco switches and fabrics in the IBM Storage Insights documentation.
  • Restriction: The following Cisco switches are not supported for monitoring at this time:
    • Nexus family switches.
    • Switches with the following SAN Extension module installed: DS-X9334-K9. To view the installed modules, use the show mod command on the switch CLI.
Additional information:
  • Enhanced zoning mode is supported. Zone aliases are not supported.
  • Fabrics with switches from two (or more) vendors are not supported unless all switches of the second vendor are in NPV (N_Port Virtualization) mode.
  • IBM Storage Insights only supports FC ports on Cisco switches.  CEE or FCoE ports are not supported.
  • You can't monitor the IP storage modules (ethernet ports) or the Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) tunnels on Cisco switches.
