An updated license generator is available for IBM Z Development and Test Environment

News

Abstract

The license generator in the Rational License Key Center (RLKC) is now updated. You can generate a license that will always be valid even if the underlying hardware of the machine that is running your Software-based License Server changes.

Content

With this new capability, your ZD&T instances will not be stopped by invalid licenses that are caused by the underlying hardware changes to the system that is running the Software-based license server.
  • When the license is running on a physical Linux system, the license fingerprint that is created by using this generator does not rely on the combination of various hardware components.
  • When the license is running on a virtual Linux system, the license fingerprint does not rely on the hardware components of physical machine, and the attributes of the virtual machine such as the UUID.
If the hardware of a physical machine changes, or the virtual machine is moved to a new physical machine for workload rebalancing, the generated license will always be valid.
Note: ZD&T does not support running the Software-based License Server on a containerized environment, such as Docker, Red Hat OpenShift, or Kubernetes.

This new capability is only a back-end change for the license generator, and all the steps to generate the license remain unchanged.

To use this new capability, choose one of the following scenarios, and perform the required steps.
