Troubleshooting
Problem
This document provides information on forcing a Remote Output Queue to select a particular paper size by specifying a particular value for the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter or by specifying one of several special MFRTYPMDL values.
Resolving The Problem
This document provides information on forcing a remote output queue to select a particular paper size. Printer device descriptions have the Paper source 1 (PPRSRC1) and Paper source 2 (PPRSRC2) parameters to specify the paper size of the first two drawers, but remote output queues do not. A default paper size can be determined from the value used for the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter, or a particular paper size can be forced by using one of several special MFRTYPMDL values with a system-supplied or modified Workstation Customizing Object (WSCST).

Choosing the Manufacturer Type and Model to Select the Paper Size
The following manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) values can be used to select a particular paper size:
*WSCSTA3 | Select A3-sized 297mm x 420mm (11.7 x 16.5 inch) paper. |
*WSCSTA4 | Select A4-sized 210mm x 297mm (8.3 x 11.7 inch) paper. |
*WSCSTA5 | Select A5-sized 148mm x 210mm (5.83 x 8.3 inch) paper. |
*WSCSTB4 | Select B4-sized 257mm x 364mm (10.1 x 14.3 inch) paper. |
*WSCSTB5 | Select B5-sized 182mm x 257mm (7.2 x 10.1 inch) paper. |
*WSCSTCONT80 | Select 8.0 inch wide continuous forms. The page length is determined by the page length and lines per inch (LPI) in the spooled file attributes or by the spooled file's data stream. |
*WSCSTCONT132 | Select 13.2 inch wide continuous forms. The page length is determined by the page length and lines per inch (LPI) in the spooled file attributes or by the spooled file's data stream. |
*WSCSTEXECUTIVE | Select executive-sized 7.25 x 10.5 inch (184mm x 267mm) paper. |
*WSCSTLEDGER | Select ledger-sized 11.0 x 17.0 inch (279mm x 432mm) paper. |
*WSCSTLEGAL | Select legal-sized 8.5 x 14.0 inch (216mm x 356mm) paper. |
*WSCSTLETTER | Select letter-sized 8.5 x 11.0 inch (216mm x 279mm) paper. |
Choosing the Workstation Customizing Object to Select the Manufacturer Type and Model
When you use one of the special manufacturer type and model values (such as *WSCSTA4) to select the page size, it no longer selects a particular printer type for Host Print Transform (HPT) to use for converting the spooled file data stream to the printer data stream. Therefore, you will need to set the workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter to the name of the system-supplied workstation customizing object or use a modified workstation customizing object.
For example, if the manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter in the RMTOUTQ is currently set to *HP4, then you will need to set the workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter to QWPHPLSR4 in library QSYS.
For a complete list of manufacturer type and model settings and their corresponding WSCST objects, please refer to the following document:
N1019698: Printer Model Settings for Host Print Transform (HPT)
To determine the proper WSCST parameter to use, look down the Manufacturer Type and Model (MFRTYPMDL) column in the document and then use the value specified in the Workstation Customizing Object (WSCST) column. The library should always be set to QSYS when selecting one of the system-supplied WSCST objects.
Changing the Remote Output Queue (RMTOUTQ)
Once you have determined the manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) and workstation customizing object (WSCST) values to use, you can change the output queue description by doing the following:
1. | End the remote writer, if started, using the End Writer (ENDWTR) command. |
2. | Change the output queue description by typing the following: WRKOUTQD OUTQ(outq-lib/outq-name) and then press the F4 (Prompt) key to prompt the command. |
3. | Press the F13 (Change) key to get to the Change Output Queue (CHGOUTQ) screen. |
4. | Press the F10 (Additional parameters), Enter, and Page Down keys until you find the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter. Set this to the value that you determined previously (such as *WSCSTA4). |
5. | Find the Workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter. Set this to the value that you determined previously (such as QWPHPLSR4 in library QSYS). |
