Multiple issues seen while using NPIV adapters with AIX 7200-05 or VIOS 3.1.2

IBM has seen multiple issues using Virtual Fibre Channel (NPIV) adapters, including but not limited to:

  • Path failures and timeouts
  • Failure to mount Virtual Tape Libraries
  • Errpt entries on boot indicating "Multiple Queues are not supported"
  • Crash of AIX LPAR

There is potential for undetected data corruption with VIOS 3.1.2 and Power9, however, we have not seen it.


AFFECTED LEVELS and RECOMMENDED FIXES

Note: Fixes may be required for either or both AIX and VIOS. Please review the tables below for any and all affected levels and recommended fixes.

  1. If using NPIV on AIX 7200-05, with any level of VIOS, these fixes are recommended:

Prior to the APAR Fix being available, an Interim Fix (iFix) is available for each affected level.
The available iFixes may only apply to the latest Service Packs. If a custom iFix is required please contact IBM Support.
