Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to install or restore Licensed Program Products (LPPs) on IBM System i system by using an image catalog rather than the default optical device.
Resolving The Problem
To avoid waiting for every CD change request during a typical operating system and their related Licensed Program Products (LPPs) manual installation process, the following is an automated way to do it that is less time-consuming.
After the Licensed Internal Code and the operating system has been installed, do the following to install or restore the remaining LPPs:
1. | On the operating system command line, type the following: Note: If it already exists, replace OPTVRT01 with OPTVRT02 and so on. CRTDEVOPT DEVD(OPTVRT01) RSRCNAME(*VRT) Press the Enter key. |
2. | On the operating system command line, type the following: VRYCFG CFGOBJ(OPTVRT01) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*ON) Press the Enter key. |
3. | On the operating systemcommand line, type the following: CRTIMGCLG IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) DIR('/sfwinstall') CRTDIR(*YES) Press the Enter key. |
4. | On the operating system command line, type the following: Note: Ensure that OPT01 is matched to your current optical device description. ADDIMGCLGE IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) FROMDEV(OPT01) Repeat this step for every CD in the Standard and Keyed Set that contains LPPs and load them into the image catalog, starting with the I_BASE and followed by all B_GROUP images thereafter. |
5. | On the operating system command line, type the following: LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) DEV(OPTVRT01) Press the Enter key. |
6. | On the operating system command line, type the following: VFYIMGCLG IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) TYPE(*OTHER) SORT(*NO) Press the Enter key. |
7. | On the operating system command line, type the following: GO LICPGM Press the Enter key and select Option 11. Install licensed programs. |
8. | Select Option 1 on the LPPs that you want to install or restore: Install Licensed Programs System: Type options, press Enter. 1=Install Licensed Product Option Program Option Description 57xxSS1 OS/400 - Library QGPL 57xxSS1 OS/400 - Library QUSRSYS 57xxSS1 1 OS/400 - Extended Base Support 57xxSS1 2 OS/400 - Online Information 57xxSS1 3 OS/400 - Extended Base Directory Support 57xxSS1 5 OS/400 - System/36 Environment 57xxSS1 6 OS/400 - System/38 Environment 57xxSS1 7 OS/400 - Example Tools Library 57xxSS1 8 OS/400 - AFP Compatibility Fonts 57xxSS1 9 OS/400 - *PRV CL Compiler Support 57xxSS1 12 OS/400 - Host Servers 57xxSS1 13 OS/400 - System Openness Includes Press the Enter key. |
9. | After the install or restore process is completed, unload the image catalog. On the operating system command line, type the following: LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) DEV(OPTVRT01) OPTION(*UNLOAD) Press the Enter key. |
10. | Remove the images to free DASD space. On the operating system command line, type the following: RMVIMGCLGE IMGCLG(SFWINSTALL) IMGCLGIDX(N) KEEP(*NO) Press the Enter key. Note: Repeat this step for every CD that is loaded. N is a consecutive number from 1 to N, depending on the CD quantity that was loaded into the image catalog. If you loaded 2 CDs, then you will have index 1 and 2, respectively. |
The Rochester Support Center knowledgebase documents for the Standard and Keyed Set Media Contents can be reviewed to find out which LPPs reside on media. For additional information, refer to the following Rochester Support Center knowledgebase document:
