PK87545: IMPROVE MANAGEMENT OF LARGE ALERT VOLUMES IN THE DB2 QUERY MONITOR CAE

APAR status

• Closed as new function.

Error description

• Valid alert threshold settings, of the DB2 Query Monitor CAE,
  may have negative affects in some environments.  Gathering
  alerts requires CPU and file space resources.
  This enhancement puts controls in place to help avoid the
  following potential problems:
  
  1. Too much CPU consumed by CAE Server
  2. Too much memory consumed by CAE Server
  3. Client hangs trying to connect to CAE Server
  4. Permanent expansion of bbdb (blackboard database)
  
  The default ALERT_LIMIT will be set lower (to 20), and the
  maxEventCount will also be set lower (to 50).
  

Local fix

• When alert threshold settings have resulted in a large events
  table the DB2 Query Monitor CAE Client can hang when connecting
  to the CAE Server.  To clear this condition:
  
  1. Stop the CAE Server
  2. Delete the entire bbdb folder
  3. Restart the CAE Server
