Abstract
APAR HU02261 can cause a Data Reduction Pool (DRP) to incorrectly detect corruption and take the pool offline, requiring support assistance to restore access to data. Systems without any compressed volumes in a Data Reduction Pool are not affected.
This issue is present in 8.3.1.0-8.3.1.3, and 8.4.0.0-8.4.0.1. It is fixed in 8.3.1.4 and 8.4.0.2.
Content
When an inconsistency is found between a DRP on-disk data block and the system's metadata, the pool is taken offline to prevent further corruption. A repair process then needs to be run once the source of corruption has been resolved.
On systems with compressed volumes in a DRP, APAR HU02261 can cause data to incorrectly be flagged as invalid - causing the pool to be taken offline even though the data is in fact correct.
While the probability of the issue occurring is low, it results in a loss of access to data until the pool is brought back online.
Fix
APAR HU02261 is fixed in 8.3.1.4 and 8.4.0.2.
