Troubleshooting
Problem
A previously working connection in IBM Planning Analytics for Excel is no longer working after a Planning Analytics (PA) server upgrade
Symptom
Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'Tm1AuthBrowser'.
Object name: 'Tm1AuthBrowser'.
Cause
Connection Datasource type in Planning Analytics for Excel is "IBM Planning Analytics. This connection type uses PMHUB as part of its path for authentication. PMHUB is deprecated as of PA 2.0.9.3 so any connection using a Datasource type of "IBM Planning Analytics" will fail
Environment
- PA server version = 2.0.9.4
- PA for Excel version = 2.0.40
- Connection type = IBM Planning Analytics
Diagnosing The Problem
To diagnose the issue,
- Open Excel and click on the IBM Planning Analytics tab
- On the top left, click on Options to open an Options window
- In the Options window, click IBM at the top left corner
- Inspect the Datasource type
If the Datasource type is "IBM Planning Analytics", the connection will use PMHUB
If the Datasource type is "TM1OData", the connection will bypass PMHUB
Resolving The Problem
Depending on the version of PA for Excel:
- recreated the connections so that they automatically use TM1OData
- if the PA for Excel version is older, you can force a TM1OData connection by adding "/?paw&odata" to the end of the existing connection URL. However, the recommendation would be to upgrade to a more recent version of PA for Excel where the Datasource type will automatically revert to TM1OData
