IT35781: RESTORE OF MICROSOFT 365 ONEDRIVE FILE FAILS WITH CTGGR0035 DUE TO CORRUPTED BACKUP COPY

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During backup of Microsoft 365 OneDrive files, IBM Spectrum
    Protect Plus does not correctly handle errors returned by the
    Microsoft gateway that require the backup to be tried again.
    When such an error occurs, the backup is not tried again, and
    the affected file is saved in a corrupted state. No error
    message is logged, and the backup status is successful.
    
    The corruption is not detectable until the file is restored.
    The restore fails with the following messages:
    
     CTGGR0035 Task ended with status: partial.
    
     CTGGA4093 The execution of the command stopped because an
     internal timeout was triggered. A command timeout may be an
     indicator of hung processes or other problems with the
     operating system on the application server.
    
    Affected versions: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus level 10.1.5,
    10.1.6, and 10.1.7

Problem conclusion

  • The problem is fixed so that when a Microsoft gateway error
    occurs while backing up a file, the backup is tried again to
    ensure the backup copy is intact.
    
    The first backup of Microsoft OneDrive that occurs after
    applying the fix for this APAR automatically checks whether any
    backup copies are affected by this problem.
    
    For each affected backup copy, a new backup copy of the file
    is created if the file is available on Microsoft OneDrive. If
    the original file is not available, then it cannot be backed up
    again.
    
    Affected backup copies cannot be restored.
    
    Refer to the job log for information about the backup copy
    inspection process described above.
    
    The below messages indicate when the backup copy inspection
    begins and ends:
    
     CTGGR9001 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account] - Starting the data
               verification process.
    
     CTGGR9003 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account] - Ending the data
               verification process.
    
    The below message indicates a backup copy of a Microsoft
    OneDrive file is affected by the issue:
    
     CTGGR9002 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account] - Object
               /folder1/folder2/example.doc has been marked as
               corrupted. The agent will attempt to protect the
               data again.
    
    The below message is a summary of the inspection process:
    
     CTGGR9005 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account]- Verified objects: xxxx,
               corrupted objects: xxxx
    
    The below message indicates the Microsoft OneDrive
    file was backed up again (the original backup copy cannot be
    restored):
    
     CTGGR9004 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account] - Object
               /folder1/folder2/example.doc is fixed.
    
    The below message indicates the Microsoft OneDrive file no
    longer exists. A new backup copy cannot be created.
    
     CTGGR9007 ONEDRIVE BACKUP - [Account] - Object
               /folder1/folder2/example.doc could not be protected
               because the source object does not exist.
