GT_IPV6_SOCK_FD error in the STAP Event Log every time STAP starts

Problem

Error in the STAP Event Log every time STAP starts:
GT_IPV6_SOCK_FD: cannot open IPV6 socket. No IPV6 Interception: Address family not supported by protocol

Symptom

Guardium STAP starting, Thu Jan 3 11:41:41 2021

Cause

Restarting the STAP will trigger the GT_IPV6_SOCK_FD message.
This message is the result when Guardium tries to check if the current environment is IPv6 or not. Once determined it writes this message when know that it cannot use IPv6 in the staring STAP phase.
If only IPv4 is used the IPv6 errors can be ignored.

Resolving The Problem

Starting in v10.6, if either protocol fails to open a message is logged to that effect for the specific protocol. In versions prior to 11.1 the IPV6 message is benign and can be ignored.

Starting with Guardium v10.6, this message has been added for  informational purpose only and is to update that  STAP will try to open both IPV4 and IPV6 sockets. The code is present to check even though IPV6  is not support with Guardium until version v11, until which Guardium only checks the protocol in order to hook the system call in KTAP.

Note: Prior to full support, in older releases like v10.6, we will always convert it to IPV4 to send packets to Collectors.

Guardium v11.x supports both IPv4 and IPv6
