Problem
In rare cases, the battery replacement causes both batteries to go in an offline state at the same time and also cause data loss.
Description
Both IBM FlashSystem® 900 batteries going offline at the same time is a rare case that is seen with battery replacements, and in such situations, it needs to be recovered. IBM FlashSystem® support mitigated the situation from the firmware and from the backup quorum procedure.
Symptom
IBM FlashSystem® in IBM Cloud Pak® System W3550 is affected. Both IBM FlashSystem® 900 batteries go offline at the same time and cause data loss.
Resolving The Problem

- Download the Utilities.zip file from https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/650785.
- Save the file on a system under C:/Download from where the IBM® engineer can copy it to the IBM® Cloud Pak System (Platform System Manager).
Resolution:
The IBM® engineer will use the Utilities.zip file and will follow the steps from the service guide for quorum backup before battery replacement.
