Error description
IBM Developer for z/OS - IDz - v14.2.4 client freezes when trying to open a copybook in the COBOL editor while other copybooks are being downloaded. Steps to reproduce: 1) Configure a SYSLIB on a property group with multiple PDS having many members (30 000 or more). Like SYSLIB=TST.MBR.PDS25K TST.MBR.PDSE25K TST.MBR.PDSE50K TST.COBOL.PDS30K.COPYLIB 2) Edit a remote COBOL program having copybooks in a PDS with many members and which is the last one on the SYSLIB (ie TST.COBOL.PDS30K.COPYLIB) 3) While the progress view shows that copybooks are being downloaded, right-click on a copy statement in the editor and select menu "Open copy member". 4) Observe that IDz client user interface is frozen for some minutes.
Local fix
Set SYSLIB with only the required datasets or datasets with less members.
Problem summary
When using the COBOL editor's open include member action while resolving copybooks with a very large SYSLIB, the client can appear to freeze
Problem conclusion
When the SYSLIB contains over a hundred thousand members there can be contention between the worker thread and the main thread that is trying to resolve copybooks at the same time with a recent change that attempts to query all the copybooks in the SYSLIB upfront.
Temporary fix
