IT35286: DSMC ABENDS WITH "SYMBOL FILE NOT FOUND" AFTER UPGRADE TO 8.1.11 ON AIX

Error description

• Problem description:
  
  After installation or update of  IBM Spectrum Protect Client to
  version 8.1.11 on AIX system with xlC.rte version earlier than
  13,
  the dsmc program fails to start due to runtime definition of the
  symbol was not found
  All the executable files which are components of the IBM
  Spectrum Protect Client (dsmcad, dsmadmc, backup-archive web
  client ) are affected.
  
  Symptom:
  
  When IBM Spectrum Protect Client  (dsmc command) tries to start
  on a AIX system,
  it displays the following message and terminates immediately.

  exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program dsmc because of the
  following errors:

  Examine the installed version IBM XL C++ Runtime for AIX to
  confirm version is below version 13:
  
  lslpp -l|grep -i xlc.rte
    xlC.rte                   12.1.0.0  COMMITTED  IBM XL C++

  Cause:
  This problem is caused by a mismatch of versions between xlC.rte
  level and IBM Spectrum Protect Client version.

Local fix

• Please do one of the following workarounds:
  
      Uninstall IBM Spectrum Protect Client, and install earlier
  version of IBM Spectrum Protect Client lower than 8.1.11
  or
      Upgrade xlC.rte to version 13 or later

Problem conclusion

• Because of security fixes, the following clients no longer
  support the operating systems:
  - IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client V7.1.8.10 and
  later: AIX 6.1 and AIX 7.1 TL0-TL3 (xlc.rte < 13.0).
  - IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client V8.1.11 and later:
  AIX 7.1 TL0-TL3 (xlc.rte < 13.0).
