Question
The user interface and REST API prevent the creation of VMFS volumes larger than 1.8TB (1887436MB) in the first or follow on requests.
Answer
The restriction was changed in Cloud Pak System V2.3.3.2 and newer. In these versions, you can create VMFS volumes larger than 1.8TB until the limit of 6TB (6291456MB or 6144GB) is reached. See our V2.3.2.0 IBM® Knowledge Center topic on Adding Volumes and our V2.3.3.0 topic on Adding Volumes.
Prior versions of PureApplication System or Cloud Pak System firmware limit the initial request and follow on requests to 1.8TB per request until the 6TB limit is reached. Also, maximum values for Block, Block Shared, and Block VMFS volumes on external storage depend on your configuration of those volumes (on your external IBM® SAN Volume Controller). Check the IBM® Knowledge Center for your firmware level, for example: the V2.3.0.1 topic on Adding volumes.
