Changing the Modem Initialization String for US Robotics 56K v92

Troubleshooting


Problem

This document provides the steps to correct the modem initialization string on the US Robotics 56K modem to work with the IBM iSeries family of servers.

Resolving The Problem

To change the modem initialization string, do the following:

1On the operating system command line, type the following:

CFGTCPPTP

Press the Enter key, and select Option 11.
2Find the modem description for the US Robotics modem, and select Option 3 against it to copy.
3Use a name for the new modem description that is descriptive to the change. In this example, we use the name US Robotics 56K v.92. Then, press the Enter key. The following is shown:
Point to Point Modem Information
4Overwrite the Modem initialization string to be:

AT+PIG=1 +PMH=1 +PQC=3

Press the Enter key. The new description is now in the list.

Point to Point modem list

Use this new modem description when making your PPP profiles.
