Error description

  • The Shared Work Item cleanup job, which is scheduled by default
to run a 3AM, takes very long to finish. If you don't set a
custom timeout value and leave the default timeout (one hour),
this timeout is not enforced. Instead, the Shared WI cleanup job
keeps running until it is done, even into early morning office
    hours.

The system log contains entries that indicate an early Exit
criteria is reached and the Shared WI cleanup job will finish,
but this is in fact not happening. Instead this early Exit
system log message is written multiple times.

Problem summary

  • The default timeout for the Shared Work Item cleanup job is not
one hour, as documented in "Cleanup procedures for Business
    Process Choreographer"
    ibm.wbpm.admin.doc/topics/c2_cleanup.html). It is actually set
to one day, which is also incorrect. When the early Exit
criteria around transactional timeout is met, it is logged into
the system log but it is not followed in the further cleanup job
     processing.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM Business Process Manager (BPM)
Advanced V8.6 2019.12 that sets the default timeout value to one
hour and ensures the early Exit criteria is not only logged but
also enforced in the cleanup job processing.
